Working in Europe and overseas

Being registered with us also makes it easier for you to register as an architect within another European member state. The Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC) was drawn up to help professionals move easily between European member states.

However, this Directive only applies to European member states.  If you want to work outside the UK and other EU member states, the architects’ professional bodies in each country should be able to advise you on the requirements for that country or on where you can find more information.  Some countries require you to register on a state-by-state basis, so you may need to be very precise about where you intend to practise.

Proof of registration

We will also provide proof of qualifications and registration status in the form of a certificate for those wanting to register within the EU or overseas. You can get an application form for these certificates by filling in a certificate request form.
